Sergio Escalera Soria
Pianist Sergio Escalera has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at the festivals of Moritzburg, Fredener Musiktage, Erfurt (Germany), Progetto Martha Argerich, Festival de Musiques Sacrées, Festival Archipel (Switzerland), Abakan Festival (Russia), Festival Komitas (Armenia) among others; and has played in some of the most important venues in Latin America such as the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, or the Center for Social Action for Music in Caracas, to name a few.
Winner of twenty prizes in international competitions, his activity as a concert performer is amalgamated with his passion for teaching and learning in initiatives around the world. His most recent pedagogical experience led him to be a piano teacher at the ‘Edward Said’ National Conservatory of Music in Ramallah, Palestine. Currently, he lives in Lisbon, Portugal, and travels with music through Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. He regularly collaborates with clarinetist Gervasio Tarragona, violinist Brusk Zanganeh and beatboxer Crobbs, among other artists. Having studied at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne and the Scuola di Musica da Camera del Trio di Trieste, his main mentors are Nadia Lapitch, Michael Lewin, Jorge Luis Prats, Igor Cognolato and Ricardo Castro.
